Of the 548 TTC employees, 21 toll collectors made up to $125,000. The TTC says a collector's top base salary is just over $58,000 but many choose to work overtime and holidays which is how they made the so-called Sunshine List of top earners.

The emergency flashboard will go up at Saylorville Lake this weekend, and early next week water will begin trickling onto the emergency spillway. Though the emergency spillway will be used, it won't be topped. The Army Corp of Engineers now believes there will be three to four feet of leeway, more than enough to prevent an uncontrolled release of water down the Des Moines River.

With just five words quietly slipped into legislation, Illinois lawmakers are moving to include tire burning in the state's definition of renewable energy, a change that would benefit a south suburban incinerator with a long history of pollution problems. Adding the "incineration or burning of tires" to a measure intended to boost wind and solar energy would clear the way for Geneva Energy to reap lucrative green energy credits for its troubled incinerator in Ford Heights, one of the poorest suburbs in t

Jamaicans have been noticing that several of the grocery items they buy no longer look and taste the same, and several persons have taken their complaints of misleading packaging and falling quality standards to the Fair Trading Commission (FTC). The FTC, as competition watchdog, can and does force food manufacturers to correct misleading representations of products where these are proved. But when the grouse is simply a matter of how the product 'tastes', then it is up to the consumer to make the call
